wreckers or spare parts in Adelaide?

Postby 4heckssake » Mon 13 Nov, 2006 11:33 am

the yellow pages and google didn't help much so... I am wondering if any of the Adelaidians on here know what happened to the merc wrecker that used to be out at Pooraka...i think on Research Road. I can't recall their name but I bought some bits and pieces for my W115 there a couple of years ago but it seems to have gone/closed?...or am i just looking in the wrong place?

more importantly, other than BEA that I ended up giving some money to on Sat morn...where else in Adelaide can i find genuine used parts (for W115 and W123s). Btw my BEA experience was pleasant and not as expensive as i expected.

I appreciate the forum sponsor is the man but sometimes a minor part is needed quickly and conveniently to keep things going.

Thanks for the tip on the mechanic and I will pass it on. I don't know how I missed this post when it first went up so thanks for the reminder. I think you must have posted between me asking for posts last visited and then going offline.

Anyway, BMP 15 Maxwell Rd Pooraka 8349 4066 is probably the place you are talking about. In the past I thought they could be a bit pricey but then it is all worth what you are prepared to pay I guess.

Other sources are the 2 u-pull-its that have a surprising number of old mercs. There was a 114 when I was last at lonsdale. Apparently there is more at Elizabeth but I have never been there. City dismantlers have a lot of old merc stuff. I picked up some cheap bits from Wanns that have a few cars out the back wrecking, including a 123 I think from memory. Davide Frada who is on here rarely these days but you could email him, used to have quite a few bits and he is at Mclaren Vale. Euro car parts or a name something like that on Grange Rd has new bits and I think also some second hand parts.

Anyway, that will get you started and i am sure others will join in later.

That's the place i was thinking of! Thanks Craig.

Cheers for the other not so obvious sources of used parts.

I'll have a dig around the u-pull and city dismantlers firstly as i agree some specialists can be a little overpriced.

FYI, i'm looking for W123s with beige interior, a working becker of the right era, rh tail light and maybe a steering wheel....and the list goes on...

see how you go with those items. Depending on how large the interior parts are that you are looking for, most of those items are quite small and freight wouldn't be too much from John. I reckon the steering wheels could even be the same on other cars of the same era which may broaden your selection from the Adelaide wreckers. With the interior stuff, if you find the bit you are looking for in good condition but it isn't the right colour, I think they still do it but SA Color, 10 Jordan Rd. Melrose Pk 8277 6555, colour matched some vinyl dye that allowed me to turn a blue part successfully into a red one for my 113. Just a thought.

At one stage there I reckon Davide had a number of Beckers.

BMP have moved to Grand Junction road, just west of MB commercial and on the other side of the road.
City di$mantler are pricey but if they have excactly what you want............
At the lonsdale U pull it there was no beige interiored 123 the last time I was there a week ago, there was a green one. The Elizabeth one usally has more Euro cars.
Austin in Mt Barker could be a long shot, got a 123 grille cheap from him a couple of years ago, he has an ad in the trading post most weeks.
Euro parts have a lot of stuff but it is all over Oz and are pretty much the same price wise as MB spares.
Other than that keep your eye on the papers for a 123 going cheap, that is if you have the room for an entire car.

BMP has moved as stated earlier to Grand Junction Rd. I spoke to the guy a few weeks ago and got the impression he can source parts if you need them but doesn't carry lots of wrecks in the lot any more - he is more into restorations now.

I was in U Pull It at Elizabeth last Friday. They has a good beige interior for a late 70's midsize sedan (sorry - don't remember the body style no as I didn't take enough notice). The thing is though, with the rain we had last weekend, it may have caused some damage. These wrecks aren't exactly kept with the doors shut. I might go aout there again this week so if I do I'll have a look out. They had about eigtht mercs of varying styles (all sedans) but they haven't churned their stock for a while.
cheers

Jason Adams at 237 Waymouth St Adelaide has second hand parts, but the prices are not the lowest.

Also, apparently there is a trade type monthly magazine called PArts Trader or something that does the rounds of the crash shops etc that lists all makes and models. Not sure how to get it though.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I'm pretty limited for time during the week days so if anyone is kicking about the wreckers and see something I'd appreciate any notice so I can duck out on the weekend etc.

The optimal find would be W123 coupe with beige interior...and good door strips and rubbers...one can only dream...

You can always call the forum sponsors Adalaide office on 1300 787 300. Its the same number as our Perth, Darwin and Brisbance offices. No not really, we are only based in Canberra but we do ship Australia wide and in some cases can do overnight delivery to Adalaide depending on the weight.

BTW try Googling "Mercedes Spares" and check out the results.

I finally got around to getting to a U-pull this weekend. I visitied the one at Elizabeth and rumaged through about 6 mercs...a couple of W123s, a couple of 126s and there was one 108.

I got a few minor bits and pieces (taillight, washer motor, rubber strip etc) but alas no beige interiors were to be found.

Next time I'm down south I'll try to visit the Lonsdale one..anyone been there lately? and if so were there many W123s?
